Duties and responsibilities: They have parts that they do when they parachute from the airplane into the forest.
1.      Parachutes from airplane into forest inaccessible by ground to suppress forest: jumps from airplane near scene of fire, pulls rip cord when clear of plane, and pulls shroud lines to guide direction of fall toward clear landing area.
2.      Orients self in relation to fire, using compass and map, and collects supplies and equipment dropped by parachute.
3.      Ascertains best method for attacking fire and communicates plan to airplane or base camp with two-way radio.
4.      Fells trees, digs trenches, and extinguishes flames, and embers to suppress fire, using ax, chain saw, shovel, and hand or engine-driven water or chemical pump.

SALARY: $34,204-$43,321

EDUCATION: requirements minimum age 18, minimum height 5’, max 6’5”, minimum weight 120 lbs. max.200 lbs. minimum fitness: 7 pull-ups, 45 sit-ups, 1.5 mile run in 11 mins.

Fun facts: Jumpers travel all over the country, including Alaska, to provide highly-trained, experienced firefighters and leadership for quick initial attack on wild-land fires in remote areas.
